Solent City Chorus, Sing in Portsmouth - AboutUs

About the Chorus

Solent City Chorus is the performing element of the Portsmouth and District Barbershop Harmony Club which was formed in the mid 1970s. The Club is a member of the British Association of Barbershop Singers (BABS) and specialises in a form of a cappella, four-part harmony for men known as Barbershop singing.

We encourage male quartet singing and we have spawned several medal-winning quartets over the years.
We also complement our barbershop repertoire with a variety of popular songs which include pop, blues, traditional, spiritual, show songs and timeless classics - all sung unaccompanied and in harmony.

We have access to national singing coaches and trainers and build their expertise into our annual programme with special training evenings education days.

We also have fun, we love to sing together and we support each other to make Wednesday a great night of the week.

We welcome you for an evening …..or a lifetime.

And barbershop harmony singing is not just for the fellows! In the UK the Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers (LABBS) has nearly 50 registered clubs and the Sweet Adelines' Quartet of Nations (Great Britain and Netherlands) has over 30 choruses.
